TGM Helps Customers Go Faster to Market with Topology Optimization
TGM Lightweight Solutions is an engineering services company with a focus on lightweight design and strategic weight optimization for aircraft, rail cars, road vehicles, and marine vessels. For a recent customer project requiring weight reduction of a railway container, TGM used Altair HyperWorks to achieve the target weight. Topology optimization helped identify the weight savings potential, resulting in material and cost savings, and a 20% reduction in weight while meeting tight development schedules.

Alstom
Alstom coupled topology optimization with additive manufacturing to explore the feasibility of alternate manufacturing to traditional casting. This resulted in a 70% weight reduction of its locomotive component.

Alstom社(英語事例)
Alstom utilized solidThinking Inspire to optimize an existing component design to be manufactured with casting or alternatively with additive manufacturing technologies. This resulted in a 70% weight reduction.

Developing a New Safety System for the Rail Industry with Sharma & Associates
Sharma & Associates (SA), a Chicago-based consulting firm that is focused on providing engineering solutions to the railroad industry, led the effort. Since 1995, SA have delivered safe, effective and efficient solutions to its customers, which include the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the Association of American Railroads (AAR), railroads and transit agencies, rail car builders and rail car component manufacturers. The objective of the Altair ProductDesign team effort was to develop an ‘Engineer Protection System (EPS)’ that can protect train crew in frontal collisions (a common mode of train collision) from secondary impact injuries.

Railcar Manufacturer Speeds Design Modifications with HyperWorks
American Railcar Industries, headquartered in St. Charles, Mo., designs and manufactures commercial railroad cars, producing every part of the car above the wheels. Customers use the company’s railcars to transport all sorts of liquid and solid raw materials, including oil, coal, cement, sand, grain and other substances. Their designs include boxcars, gondolas and hoppers, among other styles.

利用HyperWorks,轨道车制造商加速设计改造
American Railcar Industries

Nippon Sharyo
Nippon Sharyo uses AcuSolve simulation to make Japan’s bullet trains safer, more comfortable

Validation Ensures Trains Are on Track to Meet European Safety Standards
Numerical simulation aids in the design of passive safety systems to minimize passenger injury during railway
accidents.

Less Weight, More Freight – Altair Software Helps Develop Light, Innovative Cargo Rail Wagon Platform
Industries are seeking new ways to develop and manufacture lighter and more flexibly usable vehicles – less weight means higher payloads and a better ROI. For a recent project, Austria’s ÖBB RCG wanted to design a new lighter, more flexible wagon system. The result was the TransANT wagon series, a lightweight construction concept with a modular design. The most important design principles were weight optimization, standardization, and modularization in production and maintenance, and the use of high-strength construction steel. To achieve these goals, a consortium of several companies used Altair’s CAE solution. By doing so they received a payload advantage of up to 4 tons, customizable logistic solutions, and reduced manufacturing complexity thanks to ~ 40 % less parts to assemble.
